WILLIAM TIERNEY
William’s knowledge and experience in sport and exercise psychology has been motivated by a commitment to understand the mental aspects of performance. Before becoming a psychologist, William worked as a personal trainer and he has pursued his own athletic journey through different sports, including competitive bodybuilding.
William works with athletes, coaches, and teams across all levels of sport, and he recognises the important role of performance psychology in the holistic development of an athlete. William is passionate about supporting athlete’s mental health and wellbeing and he also has been privileged to gain experience working with athletes who have a disability.
William has prepared and delivered workshops and programs on performance psychology and wellbeing topics for a range of sport teams and organisations, including Cricket Australia, the South Australian Sports Institute, and Paralympics Australia.
In his clinical experience, William utilises performance psychology principles and techniques, as well as other therapeutic modalities to address a range of mental health concerns and other client presentations.
Whether the goal is performance enhancement or mental health support, William believes in a person-centred approach, and he always adapts his skillset to meet his client’s needs.
